Lowering Premiums – Stamping Out Insurance Fraud
Insurance fraud costs honest proposers money on their insurance premiums. The Insurance Fraud Squad intends to bring together the majority of proposers who are prepared to be honest about their insurance risk profile so that premiums can be cheaper.
Car Insurance Fraud
Insurance fraud has been with us almost since insurance was first invented. Car insurance fraud and the resulting high premiums that car drivers are experiencing now is a relatively recent phenomenon.
Car insurance companies have had to increase their premiums to compensate for the fraud which can come in many guises:
Staged accidents, where an accident is caused by the fraudster with, usually, an innocent member of the public being tricked into driving their properly insured car into the back of the fraudster who subsequently makes a fraudulent personal injury claim, often running into thousands of pounds.
Wrongly stated insurance proposal details where the fraudulent car insurance proposer will give false details to get a lower quote. The common car insurance proposer details that are fraudulently disclosed include postcode, occupation and no claims bonus. This results in the insurance being bought at a lower premium than it should be for the risk, causes the insurer to lose money and subsequently increase premiums for all.
